Term 2: Week 1-5

From Mrs C

Firstly, where do these weeks keep going?! I can not believe we are in May and half way through Term 2!

As you will be aware, I have been relieving in the Administration as a Deputy Principal, this will be an ongoing role for the year. In order to ensure minimal disruption, I leave detailed notes for the relief teacher and always make sure the children are well prepared before I leave.

We have certainly packed a lot into the last 5 weeks. In conjunction with our usual English and Mathematics programs, we have had ANZAC Day, Mother's Day and begun our first Science unit.

With the mornings being so cold and the grass being very wet. We have begun to do our morning fitness inside. This always brings so many giggles and lots of smiling faces...great way to start our day. We have been doing Just Dance Kids on YouTube. The sing requests always make me giggle and I just can't resist listening to them sing and dance so confidently.

Collaborative Learning Teams

We have moved into our new groups and are almost ready to swap groups again! This is such a valuable tool for creating a learning community within our classroom. It helps develop lots of friendship groups and enables a sense of belonging and family. The groups are getting so good at setting their goals AND working hard to achieving them. I am so proud of their efforts, it just warms my heart!

Winner are Grinners!

How amazing are we?! Look at our haul from Friday's Assembly. Proud is an understatement.

English

This term we have a big focus on procedure writing. So far we have used procedure writing to type up our Mother's Day cookies and to remind us how to rule up. We are really getting good at writing procedures and have noticed them everywhere!

We will also be learning all about contractions. Please have a look at our powerpoint below.

This week we will be performing 'Contraction Surgery'. You will need to come into class to see what that's all about!

There have been some changes with our home reading program. You will notice your child now has a reading log in place if the comprehension booklet from Term 1. As a year level we decided to simplify the process. If we feel your child needs extra comprehension support this will be sent home in addition to the log.

Mathematics

We will be continuing along with our PR1ME Maths books for the remainder of the year. This term we will focusing on Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry (shape).
You will seeing lots of learning in and around our classroom as we proceed.
In addition to these focus areas, we are building our knowledge about time - days of the week, months of the year, how many days in a week/fortnight/month. Please help your child recite these maths concepts to develop a deep understanding.

Science

We are learning about living things. This builds on from the children's understandings about Living vs Non Living things from Pre-primary. I was amazed at the amount of knowledge the children have already displayed. I have included the KWL chart below.

Week 4 saw us plant our 'Magic Beans'. We have developed an inquiry and decided to have three test subjects in addition to each child's planting. I have attached a link below for you to have a look at our inquiry planner and discuss it with your child.

Thank you as always for your continued support.
