What a term or two!

Hello everyone,
I hope you can forgive my absence, it appears my last post did not publish and in searching has been lost in the ether...technology huh!

It has been an extremely busy semester and even busier start to the term.
You may have heard we have had some visitors to our classroom of late. Wattle Grove Primary school have been working with a number of organisations to up-skill teachers on how best to cater for academically able children. We always have plenty of interest in our Mini MAC program and welcome visitors to view the model we have created. It is our hope that other children may also benefit from being catered for academically. Wattle Grove Primary has also been acknowledged for its excellence in literacy teaching and as such, we have been providing opportunities for other schools to be mentored by us in this learning area. We will continue to have visitors over the term and look forward to sharing our knowledge.

Swimming

Room 23 will be swimming in weeks 7 and 8. Permission notes have been sent home.

Booklists

Booklists for 2020 have been sent home, however, I ask you to hold off ordering until we have finalised the Mini MAC and MAC classrooms for next year as they have separate booklists.

Super Scientist

The Super Scientist challenge for Term 4 is in the form of a research project. Students are to research any scientific topic then present their presentation to the class in a short presentation (2 - 5 mins). Students can use posters, charts or PowerPoint to support their presentation.

Class presentations will take place over the next two weeks.

Year level finals will be posted in our 'Notices' window once timetabled.

Students began their project last Friday during computer time, however, it is expected they will complete their project at home.

If you have any questions, please come and see me.

STEM

Our STEM projects at the end of last term were a sight to behold! I knew I had some very clever little people in my classroom, but they never cease to amaze me with their curiosity, their creativity, their perseverance and most of all their resilience!

Thank you so much for your support over the year. It means more than you could imagine.

With much gratitude,

Term 3

Hello everyone,
Welcome to Term 3. Well, more specifically week 2 of Term 3! It feels like yesterday we were starting the year.

Term 3 is a busy term, so please ensure you are checking for notices.

We have already had some exciting things happen this term. New councillors have been appointed following our voting procedure. Congratulations to Nikki and Kate. I am sure you will represent the Mini MAC with confidence and professionalism. I look forward to our first class meeting.

Nikki and Kate with previous councillor, Gorika (Tom was absent)

Thursday, 1st August was World Scout Day. A day that commemorates the start of the Scouting movement with first Scout camp at Brownsea Island in England in 1907.
Ronan, a member of our class is a Cub/Scout. He asked if he could wear his uniform and present some information regarding what Scouts is all about. Ronan, along with his Scout leader mum, or Raksha as she is known in the Scouting world, presented us with some amazing information along with photos and tales of their achievement badges and adventures. We then learnt how to make an old t-shirt into a bag using reef knots to secure the base. Such an amazing afternoon in which every student was engaged and proud of their t-shirt bags. Please keep your good t-shirts safe or you may see them turning up as carry bags. You have been warned!! haha

Some people even chose to get a little fancy with their off cuts :)

Term 3 will also see us perform our assembly item. This will take place in week 5. More information will be coming very soon. Please help your child practise their roles as we are hoping to make our assembly entirely student directed on the day. I try not to be offended when they don't need me :)

Term 3 has also seen a change in our homework schedule, so please head over to that tab for more information.

Thank you for all your support.
I look forward to another wonderful term.

With much gratitude,

Science, Science, Science and a Few Books

Hi everyone,
Well here we are, almost half way through the year! How fast time goes, EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR!
We have achieved so much already. I hope you are as proud as I am.

So what's been happening?

Science. Lots of Science.

The last few weeks have seen us in the audience of many a wonderful Science experiment. The confidence demonstrated and the scientific knowledge of the presentations was very impressive.

HUGE Congratulations to our Year Level Finalists:

Year One - Meryl Anoop (also the overall Year One winner)

Year Two - Addison Grant (also the overall Year Two winner)

Year Three - Shayan Islam

Books. We LOVE Books!

I definitely have a class of readers this year. They would literally read all day if I let them. So has proven to be a wondrous thing. At the last senior assembly, we won the Literacy Pro Award. This award is presented to the class with the highest quiz pass rate. We took it out with a very impressive 90% accuracy! How proud I am, especially when you think we are the only class with Year Ones and Twos participating.

To date we, as a class, have read  5,053,189  words!

Our quiz pass rate remains at 90%. What a huge effort!

Writing

We have been working hard on our biographies of 'World Changers'. We are looking forward to putting all our research and summaries to good use to complete our works of art. Please keep an eye out for the display coming soon.

Mathematics

We have had a focus on fractions for the last few weeks. What started out as a confusing concept has wound up being a huge success! So much so, that the Year Ones were devastated to learn their initial goal was to identify halves and quarters of shapes. "Oh no!" they said. "We can do WAY more than that!" And let me tell you they certainly have! The Year Twos and Threes have been putting their fraction knowledge to use to design a flag and rug. Both of which had quite strict guidelines to adhere to. They have well and truly risen to the challenge once again!

Thank you all again for your support this term.
Reports will be coming home in Week 10.

In preparation for our break, I wish you all a relaxing, fun filled holiday.

With much gratitude,
