Science, Science, Science and a Few Books

Hi everyone,
Well here we are, almost half way through the year! How fast time goes, EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR!
We have achieved so much already. I hope you are as proud as I am.

So what's been happening?

Science. Lots of Science.

The last few weeks have seen us in the audience of many a wonderful Science experiment. The confidence demonstrated and the scientific knowledge of the presentations was very impressive.

Books. We LOVE Books!

I definitely have a class of readers this year. They would literally read all day if I let them. So has proven to be a wondrous thing. At the last senior assembly, we won the Literacy Pro Award. This award is presented to the class with the highest quiz pass rate. We took it out with a very impressive 90% accuracy! How proud I am, especially when you think we are the only class with Year Ones and Twos participating.

To date we, as a class, have read  5,053,189  words!


Our quiz pass rate remains at 90%. What a huge effort!

Writing

We have been working hard on our biographies of 'World Changers'. We are looking forward to putting all our research and summaries to good use to complete our works of art. Please keep an eye out for the display coming soon.

Mathematics

We have had a focus on fractions for the last few weeks. What started out as a confusing concept has wound up being a huge success! So much so, that the Year Ones were devastated to learn their initial goal was to identify halves and quarters of shapes. "Oh no!" they said. "We can do WAY more than that!" And let me tell you they certainly have! The Year Twos and Threes have been putting their fraction knowledge to use to design a flag and rug. Both of which had quite strict guidelines to adhere to. They have well and truly risen to the challenge once again!

Testing!

Parent Interviews, Congratulations and a Tiny Teacher

Hi everyone,
I hope you are all well and enjoying the cooler weather.
I cannot believe we have one week left before holidays and Easter! Time sure does fly when you're having fun!

I am looking forward to meeting with you all next Tuesday for the Parent Interviews. Please be aware the meetings are strictly 10 mins due to having to meet with 24 parents throughout the afternoon. Seats will be placed out the front of the class and I will invite you in as I farewell the previous parent. I will endeavour to remain on time and appreciate your understanding.

Congratulations goes to Shayan on receiving a Merit Certificate and Kayla for receiving the Sports Certificate. Well done to you both. I am so proud of the people you have grown into over the past few years.

As you would be aware we have many students in our class with BIG aspirations for their future, something I love being a part of. I love watching them become so thoroughly passionate about their future careers and lives.

Our amazing Kayla has aspired to be a teacher since she became a student of mine in Year One. She LOVES making PowerPoint lessons and activities to accompany her lesson. I adore the fact that she marks, comments, stamps and stickers 'her' student's work and meets with them after to discuss their achievements.

She recently made a PowerPoint lesson and activities to support the Year Ones' understanding of place value.

Kayla did the most amazing job! The Year Ones absolutely loved it and commented on her being a wonderful teacher. One of the Year Two students commented that I need to be careful or I will lose my job to Kayla.

Kayla, I am extremely proud of your dedication and passion and I know you further developed the place value knowledge of the Year Ones. Well done!

Please be reminded that next Friday is a Pupil Free Day, so students' last day will be Thursday.

Harmony Day

Hi everyone,
Just a quick post in celebration of Harmony Day.
In light of recent horrific world events, Harmony Day could not have come along at a better time.
I am grateful everyday, to work in a school that welcomes and appreciates all cultures, whilst teaching inclusiveness and compassion.
What a truly wonderful school environment we have.

It's All Happening

Hi everyone,
Hope you have been enjoying the beautiful weather we've been having. I'm personally looking forward to the cooler weather of winter.

We have had so much going on in Room 23, I almost don't know where to begin with this post. So, I will begin on a celebratory note. On the 7th March we celebrated Dani's birthday. Table 4 got to wear party hats for the day and we were extremely lucky to have enjoyed iced doughnuts in the afternoon. Once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANI!

This past week saw the end of our first lot of collaborative teams. Teams are changed every five weeks and are a great way for the students to get to know and work with everyone in class. Before we leave our groups, we provide feedback to our team and to our shoulder partner in particular. We do one final 'celebration', pack up our belongings and 'move house' as we call it. Mrs C know just has to get used to where everyone has moved to.

Our 'Big Write' days (Thursdays), are our favourite! Everyone's writing is coming along so well. I have been very impressed with the progress so far and everyone should feel very proud.

For the past two weeks we have been doing 'Breakdown Buddies' on a Friday morning. Breakdown Buddies is where students read their writing aloud to their shoulder partner, editing as they go. Shoulder partners then provide their partner with Two Glows and a Grow (two things they feel their partner did well and one thing for them to work on. Cute right?!). The quality of feedback is exceptional and insightful. Super proud teacher over here!

A huge thank you is also due to the parents for supporting your child's writing with the Talk Homework task. I hope you have found this entertaining. I have heard that some of you have AMAZING story ideas! We may have to have a parent Big Write also :)

Our All About Me presentations are now complete with all students presenting very well. We had some very impressive presentations complete with quizzes, sushi, word searches and musk sticks!

Once again, Room 23 are winners! What can we say, we are just that good I guess ;) At the most recent assembly we won the Music Award. Thanks Mr Honey.

Congratulations to our Junior Merit winners, Kate and Meryl. Well done girls!

Finally, please be reminded that this Friday is Harmony Day. Students can wear their cultural dress or orange, the colour of Harmony Day.
